Product Features

High Stability & Controlled Reaction
Compared to DCP (Di-Cumyl Peroxide), BIBP exhibits more uniform thermal decomposition, ensuring a more stable processing environment.

Lower Decomposition Temperature for Wider Applications
With a lower decomposition temperature than DCP, BIBP is ideal for temperature-sensitive materials such as EPDM, EVA, and polyolefins (PE, PP), providing excellent crosslinking performance.

Low Odor & Reduced Byproducts
BIBP produces fewer decomposition byproducts, minimizing odor and volatile residues during processing. This enhances product quality while meeting environmental regulations.

Superior Crosslinking Performance
Enhances mechanical strength, heat resistance, and aging resistance in rubber and plastic crosslinking & polymer modification, making it particularly suitable for rubber vulcanization and thermoplastic modification.

Excellent Processability
Effectively reduces viscosity during processing, improving extrusion and molding characteristics, leading to enhanced physical and mechanical properties.

Applications

Rubber Crosslinking Agent (EPDM, EVA foam shoe materials, industrial rubber)
Polymer Modification (PE, PP crosslinking & degradation control)
Thermosetting Resin Curing (UPR, epoxy resins, etc.)
Foaming Agent (Provides stable free radicals to enhance foaming reactions)

With its stability, high efficiency, and low odor, BIBP is widely used in rubber and plastic processing, enhancing material properties and production quality.

Half-Life Data

The activity of organic peroxides is typically expressed in terms of their half-life (t₁/₂) at various temperatures.
The half-life of Perkadox® 14S-FL in chlorobenzene is:

0.1 hour156
1 hour134
10 hours114
Equation 1kd = A·e-Ea/RT
Equation 2t½ = (ln2)/kd
Ea 152.69
A 7.65E+15
R8.3142 J/mole·K
T (273.15+°C) K

Thermal Stability

Organic peroxides are thermally unstable substances and may undergo self-accelerating decomposition (SADT) under certain conditions.
SADT refers to the lowest temperature at which a substance may begin self-decomposition in its transport packaging. This value is determined through heat accumulation storage testing.

  • SADT of Perkadox® 14S-FL: 80°C (176°F)
  • The test method is described in the UN “Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods – Manual of Tests and Criteria” (New York and Geneva editions).

Storage Recommendations

Due to the relative instability of organic peroxides, prolonged storage may lead to gradual degradation. To minimize this risk, Nouryon provides specific storage temperature recommendations for each product:

  • Maximum storage temperature to prevent caking: 20°C (68°F)
  • Perkadox® 14S-FL can be safely stored at temperatures up to 30°C (86°F) without loss of activity
  • Under recommended storage conditions, Perkadox® 14S-FL remains within Nouryon specifications for at least 12 months from the date of delivery
