Product Description

Rubber compounds containing Perkadox® BC-FF offer good processing safety and a moderate curing rate.

  • Safe processing temperature: 130°C (ts₂ > 20 minutes, measured by rheometer)

  • Typical crosslinking temperature: 170°C (t₉₀ approx. 12 minutes, measured by rheometer)

The above data was obtained using a rheometer with EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber) as the base material and can serve as a reference for actual processing and formulation design.

Half-Life Data

The activity of organic peroxides is typically expressed in terms of their half-life (t₁/₂) at different temperatures. The half-life of Perkadox® BC-FF in chlorobenzene is:

0.1 hourat 154°C (309°F)
1 hourat 132°C (270°F)
10 hoursat 112°C (234°F)
Equation 1 kd = A·e-Ea/RT
Equation 2 t½ = (ln2)/kd
Ea 152.67 kJ/mole
A 9.24E+15 s-1
R 8.3142 J/mole·K
T(273.15+°C) K

Thermal Stability

Organic peroxides are thermally unstable substances that may undergo self-accelerating decomposition.
The Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) refers to the lowest temperature at which a substance may begin to self-decompose in its transport packaging.

  • SADT of Perkadox® BC-FF: 75°C (167°F)
  • Test method: Thermal accumulation storage test (as referenced in the UN “Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods – Manual of Tests and Criteria”)

Storage Recommendations

Due to the potential for quality degradation over time, Nouryon recommends the following storage conditions to minimize risk:

  • Maximum storage temperature: 30°C (86°F)
  • Store in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area
  • Keep away from heat sources, ignition sources, and direct sunlight
  • Do not repackage or weigh the product in storage areas
