Half-Life Data

The activity of organic peroxides is typically expressed in terms of their half-life (t₁/₂) at various temperatures. The half-life of Trigonox® 101 in chlorobenzene is:

0.1 hourat 156°C (313°F)
1 hourat 134°C (273°F)
10 hoursat 115°C (239°F)
Equation 1kd = A·e-Ea/RT
Equation 2t½ = (ln2)/kd
Ea 155.49 kJ/mole
A 1.68E+16 s-1
R8.3142 J/mole·K
T (273.15+°C) K

Thermal Stability

Organic peroxides are thermally unstable substances and may undergo self-accelerating decomposition (SADT) under certain conditions.
SADT refers to the lowest temperature at which a substance may begin to decompose within its transportation packaging. This value is determined through a heat accumulation storage test.

  • SADT of Trigonox® 101: 80°C (176°F)
  • Test method in accordance with the UN “Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods – Manual of Tests and Criteria” (New York / Geneva editions)

Storage Recommendations

As organic peroxides may degrade during storage, Nouryon recommends the following conditions to ensure product stability:

  • Recommended storage temperature range: 10°C to 40°C (50°F to 104°F)
  • When stored under strictly recommended conditions, Trigonox® 101 will remain within Nouryon specifications for at least 12 months from the date of delivery
